King Arthur and his wife, Guinivere, were the founders of the famous round table. The round table was a wedding-gift from his wife Guinevere to him. Because of the round shape of the table no one could sit at the head of the table so everyone is equal. Still, Arthur was the king of them all.

 

The main story about the life of Arthur it is said that he was partly raised by the magician Merlin. Merlin took care of the young king. Legend says that he was destined to be king of Britain, as he was the only one who could pull the Sword in the Stone from the pedestal.

 

As he became older, he received the famous sword Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake. It held mysterious powers, such as not becoming older and quickly healing wounds. King Arthur is the main character in a lot of tales in the middle ages. One of the most important quests was the search for the Holy Grail. You will read more about the search for the Holy Grail in one of the other stories.

 

He died at the battle of Camlann, where he fought sir Mordred (his nephew), who also died in their fight. After his death, he was taken to the mysterious island called Avalon.  According to Legend, Arthur will return from his eternal sleep on Avalon when Britain needs him once again.
